The Reality of Real Love

Blue skies, warm sun,
And love that is "normal" ...
Only in fairy tales.
The normalcy of love is this:
There are times when skies are black,
And the sun does not shine for what feels like forever;
There are times when the face looking back at you
Looks nothing like the one dressed in virginal white,
Nor the one in black tie and tails;
There are times when angry words are the only ones found,
And the feelings of love once so profound seem to have faded,
Leaving confusion and loneliness in their place;
There are times when your heart is torn by the
Actions of the one who vowed to love and honor,
Causing pain seemingly too deep to ever heal;
But through the blackest of storms which life inevitably brings,
The invisible cord of abiding truth tethers one to the other,
Even while dwelling inside the wish of cutting it clean;
And there is a distant knowing which gnaws through the darkness,
Landing securely within your soul,
Bringing an assurance that the halves do, indeed, make a whole;
So, when once again the sun does shine and skies turn blue,
The saving balm of true love, hiding from storm's attempted destruction,
Emerges, rebuilding and healing the damage from angry human winds;
And therein lies the reality --
Real love will remain even when mistaken for hate,
It will not bleed to death from even the deepest of wounds,
And it will revive itself in even the most hopeless of times;
Proving that its existence is not found in the warmth of sunlight,
But in how well it survives the chill of darkness.
