If you watched Late Night with Conan O’Brien last night, then I bet you laughed your butt off, too, when they were “casting” their alleged campaign made-for-tv movie, didn’t you! It is truly one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Hubs and I were totally in stitches! For those of you who didn’t see it, here it is — enjoy!
It’s no ordinary show, either. In fact, I see it as being rather controversial until the pilot finally airs, which is a long way off since filming doesn’t even begin until after the shooting of Survivor 18 wraps in January. I’d love to get your take on it. The premise of the show is as follows (from Ew.com):
The show, Live Like You’re Dying, will feature a person who has been given a terminal diagnosis with a finite amount of time to live and “take them on the last adventure of their life,” according to Probst. That adventure will include reunions with lost friends or formerly feuding family members, a “legacy moment” that will ensure their name carries on forever, and living out a personal dream. “It could be playing guitar with Eric Clapton or jumping out of a plane into a volcano,” Probst explained to EW.com. “Whatever it is that you’re still desiring to do in your life — we want to make it happen.” (A new subject will be profiled for every episode should the show get picked up and go to series.)
Of course, a program profiling people with terminal diseases runs the risk of being just a tad morbid, but Probst insists the show will be inspirational rather than depressing. “The focus of the show is not death,” says Probst. “The story we’re going tell is about living. This is a show that is intended to inspire everybody to get the most out of their lives every day.”
Joining Probst on the project is his Survivor boss Mark Burnett, who will also be executive producing, and Denise Cramsey of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Trading Spaces, who will act as showrunner. Production on the Live Like You’re Dying pilot will begin in January. No air date has been set should the show make it to series.
So what do you think? If you read the comments on the EW.com page, you’ll see a very definite difference in opinion at both ends of the spectrum. I think I fall somewhere closer to the “this is exploiting dying people” side, but I may change my mind once I see the show. They may handle it extremely tastefully and it could turn out to be very heartwarming. I don’t know, though …. it could turn out to be just too sad. What are your thoughts?
My daughter showed me this video the other day and we laughed so hard we had tears. Then today my son Dave came over and we were all talking about funny videos and stuff, so Callie showed it to him and I laughed again so hard I thought I was going to pee my pants. It’s just gotta be the cutest and funniest video ever!
I know I’m dating myself by asking that question, but something happened today that made my thoughts go back to the “good old days” when my Mom would let my sisters and me take a break from our Saturday morning chores to watch American Bandstand. We never missed it! It’s something we really looked forward to.
So anyway, what made me think of that was when my daughter and I were talking about a particular song we had just listened to, and she said, “It’s got a good beat”. I started laughing and told her that that is what EVERYONE said during the rate-a-record portion of every American Bandstand show! LOL Remember? Dick Clark would pick one guy and one girl out of the audience to listen to the number one song being premiered on his show that day, and then they would have to rate it? It was always either “It had a good beat; It was easy to dance to. I give it a 90%.”, or “I didn’t like it. It was hard to dance to. I give it a 50%.” LOL Ohhh man, I so loved that show! And to think that Dick Clark is still alive, well, it boggles the mind. I saw him on TV last New Year’s Eve, God bless him. He’s so old and talks very slowly because of the stroke he suffered, but he keeps on going and going, just like the energizer bunny. You just gotta’ admire that man for everything he’s accomplished in his lifetime!
So what are your favorite memories of American Bandstand?
I haven’t really said very much at all about this season of Big Brother. After not watching more than the first two episodes of Season 9 because they were all so sleazy, I was a bit reluctant to even begin watching Season 10. I knew after the first episode, though, that this season would be a good one.
Last night Dan became the winner of BB10. I was glad he won. I think he really deserved it. He played a phenomenal game, out-thinking and out-maneuvering everyone on an impressive level. It was a bit disappointing to watch him change about 2/3 of the way in, though. I really believed he was the “good Catholic boy” who didn’t swear or drink and couldn’t stand it when the women would talk about their periods or having sex. It later became quite evident that all of that was either a very good acting job, or he was truly concerned about his teaching position at the all-boys Catholic school. I guess the closer he got to the money, the less concerned he became. Anyway, he played a great game.
Keesha won America’s Choice and was awarded $25,000.00. I was glad she won. I voted for her. Well actually I voted for both she and Renny. I would have been happy with either Keesha or Renny winning it. Renny is SO hilarious! I could watch that woman every day of the week. She does the best impressions of people! Totally a hoot!
That brings us to Jerry. I guess those of you who only watched the shows on CBS every week probably think he’s a sweet old man. Well he’s not. He’s freakin’ disgusting! He says and does stuff that no 75 year old man should be saying and doing! He’s gross! They were playing with clay one night just for something to do, and he made a damn penis with it and held it up to his crotch! Then he told Keesha he made it because she was horny! OMG! He was constantly dropping the “F” bomb, talking about people behind their backs in a BIG way (and an ugly way), and talking about sex and stuff like a young dude. Oh man, if he was my grandfather and I saw him doing that, I would be mortified! Damn. When you reach that age you’re supposed to be refined and wise and mellow and well-mannered and sweet! NO person I have EVER known in my life who is that age has EVER been that creepy! I was completely shocked when Julie Chen said he came in 2nd in America’s Choice! What were people thinking??? I could go on and on about him, but I won’t. LOL Suffice it to say that I did not like him at all and was glad he didn’t win — and I wish CBS would have portrayed him like he really was!
If you watched BB10, what are your final thoughts on the season?
