Two Wonderful Women

Marcia Luce
Later, as an adult, I was lucky enough to get to know her outside of the educational system, and found her to be a delightfully funny woman with a very sarcastic sense of humor. She was a lot of fun to be around. I will never forget her. She made a significant impact on my life, and that is, of course, the hallmark of a truly great teacher.
One day later another wonderful teacher passed away. Her name was Stefanie Hoel. I wish I had a picture of her, too, but I couldn’t find one. She hadn’t been my teacher — she had actually been my son David’s 2nd grade teacher. He’ll be 25 on Saturday, but he still remembers Mrs. Hoel very well. She taught those little 2nd graders French! Isn’t that awesome? I was so impressed by that, and the kids really seemed to love it. It was just too bad they couldn’t continue on with it past 2nd grade.
Mrs. Hoel was a beautiful woman. She was open and welcoming, and was always smiling. She was the epitome of what one thinks of when imagining the perfect grade school teacher. All the kids truly loved her and would stop at the classroom door every day to give her a hug as they left to go home.
She and her husband had moved to Estes Park, where we were on the 14th and 15th. Ironically, she passed away the day we arrived. I hadn’t seen her for many, many years, which I regret. I would’ve really liked to have seen her and told her how vividly David remembers her. Somehow, though, I believe she knows how much she touched the children she taught.
Two wonderful women; two wonderful teachers. We will miss them very much, but will never forget. Thank you, Ms. Luce. Thank you, Mrs. Hoel.

I read your wonderful comments about my mother and was very touched. I remember a lot of the children that were in my mother’s elementary class, but I couldn’t find a last name on the posting. Thank you for taking the time to post such a caring thought.
Dear Jacki,
First of all I want to tell you how very sorry I am for your loss. My own mother passed away four years ago, so I know how difficult it is.
Secondly, I want you to know it was my pleasure and honor to write about your mother. I remember her so very well. She touched so, so many people in her lifetime. Something I know you are proud of. I, myself, am proud she taught my son.
You and your family are in my prayers. God bless.
Beautifully spoken, Leigh. Just BEAUTIFUL!
