I have my baby back!!!! All of a sudden this afternoon the HS called and said we could come pick her up and bring her home because her vaccinations are current. I think it was something else altogether, though, that made them call. You see, I have an Army of Angels by my side from the Cat Blogosphere! That’s right boys and girls, the cat lovers have come to the aid of Cheyenne in a way you just cannot comprehend! They are spearheading a campaign on Cheyenne’s and my behalf like you would not believe! They are an organization 5,000 strong, and each and every one of them is fighting the good fight for Cheyenne and me. I don’t even know how I will ever be able to repay their phenomenal generosity and support, but I CAN tell you this: I will love cats and cat people with all my heart forever!!

I have contacted an attorney here in town, which, by the way, was located by my new wonderful angel friend from Cat Blogosphere who happens to be a paralegal herself, and he has agreed to take the case, especially after I mentioned to him (like Deb said I should *wink*) that the media has been alerted and inundated, so it’s apt to be a high profile case for this little town. He’s on vacation next week, but will be back the following week and he assured me that leaves him enough time to prepare for the hearing. He said in all likelihood I won’t even have to appear for that hearing if he’s representing me, and he may even be able to talk the City Attorney into dropping the charges since there is no real evidence. Now I just have to come up with his retainer, but I’m thinking positive for that, too! Good things are definitely happening.

I’ve also made an appointment for tomorrow morning with an independent Vet to take a look at her and get it on the record that she has no injuries to her face, legs, body, etc. that one would expect to see on a dog who has been in a fight to the death with a cat. MY Vet — the asshole — never did go down to the HS — of which he is the DIRECTOR — to examine Chey. The new Vet I called asked why he didn’t examine her, sounding very perplexed at the notion that he would not do so since I asked him myself. I told him I had no idea. Well, when my daughter and I were at the HS picking up Cheyenne, I mentioned it to the gal there and said that I thought he had to examine all the animals that came through there, to which she replied, “Well, that’s kind of a big controversy around here”. Uh huh. Hmmmm. Well I can assure you that he will NEVER see, touch, examine or talk to one of my animals ever again!!

So, that’s where it stands right now. My big black bundle of love is home where she belongs, and I can stop crying! All in HUGE part to the Angels of the Cat Blogosphere! I am forever in your debt!

  1. Congratulations, Leigh! We posted about you earlier and came by to check for an update. We saw Deb & ML’s comments about Cheyenne coming home, so we dropped over to the CB to read your message, posted an update on JFF, and here you are with Cheyenne home. We are all so pleased. Even though it’s not technically over yet, you have your girl home and that was the a big part of the battle. We’re here if there is anything we can do.

  3. Goodness, I missed all of the excitement today. Mum was at work and I can’t be on line until she comes home. Thank goodness you have a lawyer to assist. Glad that Cheyenne is home.

Maybe the first vet, it is a conflict of interest to examine a ’suspect’ if he is both the personal vet and the vet for the HS. Better to have an independent opinion. Would DNA evidence help in these cases?

  4. were so sorry youre going thru this but at least your baby is home. yeah it sounds like this is all hearsay and also if somepne doesnt know animals they might think all black dogs look alike and it could have been another black dog.

  7. We are just getting home and finding out about the situation with Cheyenne. We are so glad that she is home. The vet could have done the honorable thing and told you that he couldn’t examine an animal in the HS that he also personally treated and recommended someone else. I don’t blame you for finding another vet!

  17. I just caught up on your story and I’m so glad to see the outcome! I have tears in my eyes. Chey was probably overjoyed to be back home with her pack. Fortunately, “dogs live in the NOW” (quoting Cesar Millan) so she won’t hold on to the trauma of the separation.

Your Chey reminds me of my Ebony. We lost her last December to bone cancer.

Take care and enjoy your Chey … she’s beautiful!

  21. We just read about your terrible case of mistaken identity Cheyenne, and are so happy that things have been resolved. It is so totally unfair that you and your beans should be put through something like this, just because all black labs look alike. We hope you are vindicated with this situation, and you are right, us kitties in the CB really are a good bunch, we care so much about all kitties and woofies and their beans!

  24. Glad to hear she’s back home! I would make sure that you try to bring up to the news about the indifference of a vet thats supposed to dedicate his life to helping animals, and make sure you tell them what he said! How DARE he call him self a vet! I can’t imagine! My mommy werks for a vet, and she saz that her vets would most definitely do anything they could to help an animal! They try so hard to fight for them. So your vet is a jerkface (mommy saz i have to watch my language i’m still just a baby) and take him down!

  27. YAY!!! We are so very thrilled that Chey is home where she belongs!!! WOOOO HOOOOO!!!! We are sure that the INhumane society did’t know what hit them when the cats of the Cat Blogosphere innundated them!!! Don’t mess with cats on a mission!!

  28. I’m so glad Cheyenne is back home with you. It is ridiculous that one person’s word with absolutely no proof of any kind can result in the actions this INhumane agency took.

I was also wondering what this person’s DECLAWED cat was doing outside to begin with. It has nothing to do with this case, but first she mutilates the cat then lets it outside? Nice.

  29. That is an unbelievable story. Thank goodness for the Cat Blogosphere. Aren’t they wonderful? We are all very happy that Cheyenne is back home with you, safe and sound. Mom thinks that you need to make your accuser pay your attorney fees when Cheyenne is acquitted. That way your accuser will realize the importance of a correct identification and next time be more careful with her accusations.
