Well, the nightmare continues.
I spoke with the Humane Society (hereafter to be referred to as HS) yesterday afternoon to check on Cheyenne, which left me thinking she’s not all that great. The gal said, “Well, she … seems to be doing okay. I haven’t been able to spend much time with her today, but she’s, you know, decent”. DECENT???? Are you kidding me? WTF!!
She then proceeded to tell me that the lady who accused Cheyenne was going down there to look at her again because “they don’t see the point in quarantining a dog they’re, you know, um, not sure about”. Uh yeah, that’s because she’s INNOCENT!!!
Fast-forward a few hours — I heard absolutely NOTHING from the HS. Nada. So I call this morning, ask what’s going on with Cheyenne. She says they’re still trying to get a hold of the woman who accused her, but as of yet have not been able to reach her to come back down to look at Chey again. What?! So I say, “Yeah, and in the meantime Cheyenne is sitting down there alone, scared and traumatized!”, to which she replied that they would call me just as soon as they reach that lady and have her come look at Cheyenne again. OK, by this time I’m absolutely livid and bawling once again, which I’ve been doing practically nonstop as it is.
I gather myself enough to ask if Dr. Fredregill, my Vet AND the director of the HS, has been down to examine her. The reason I asked that is because I called him TWO days ago and told him there was NO WAY it was Cheyenne who did that terrible attack and that he should know that since he’s treated her since she was a puppy, and told him to go examine her to see for himself that there is not ONE MARK on her body, face or legs from having been in a death match with a cat! Guess what he said to me? My Vet for over 20 freaking years said, “Well I believe there’s been an identification, and the cat was declawed. Your dog will have its day in court, as will you”. ASSHOLE!! Guess who’s getting a new Vet!!! Well anyway, the gal said no, he hasn’t been here to look at her. Again, ASSHOLE!! Oh, and then she’s says the same thing — “the cat was declawed, so … “. IDIOTS, all of them!! I don’t care if the cat was declawed — it still has TEETH!!
I then asked if we could come visit her. She says she’ll have to “ask the director” (the above mentioned asshole) if it’s okay since she’s a court dog. A court dog! That’s how they’re referring to my sweet, INNOCENT dog! So then I tell her that our neighbor (Darrel, our good friend I’ve blogged about lately) called Hubs last night and offered, without solicitation, to testify in court if need be that he has NEVER seen Cheyenne out running around! Wasn’t that amazing of him? Of course he offered because he’s a great guy and because it’s the TRUTH! So the gal says, “Oh yeah, tell him to call them (whoever “them” are) and they will probably let him and that could help”. Again, WTF?! Is she dense??? Of course it would help! And of course they’d let him testify! But she missed the point completely — there’s someone else other than family members attesting to the fact that Cheyenne is NEVER out running the freaking neighborhood! But you see, that doesn’t matter. I think the whole damn town could attest to that fact and they would still hold Cheyenne hostage because that ONE woman made an identification — a FALSE identification! They aren’t believing anyone but her! So, where in the hell is JUSTICE!? Where is “innocent until proven guilty”?? Oh yeah, she told me that they have to keep Cheyenne as long as that lady says it was her who attacked her and killed her cat “to ensure public safety”. UNBELIEVABLE! Like I said, a nightmare! I just can’t believe this is happening and that they can take someone’s beloved pet away simply because someone points a finger and says “that’s the dog”, with NO OTHER EVIDENCE OR PROOF WHATSOEVER! Is this America or what!?
So, what’s my next move? I’ve still not heard back from ANY of the organizations I contacted, nor the law firm. Do you think I should write the letter to the editor now, or wait to see what the accuser says after she looks at Cheyenne again? I’ll be honest, right now I can’t really trust my decision-making skills; I’m not thinking straight whatsoever. My mind is all over the place and I really don’t want to do the wrong thing and make it worse, you know? Any ideas?
Last but certainly not least, I want to THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of heart for all of your support, encouragement, advice and friendship. You really have no idea how you have helped to sustain me through this unbelievably difficult time. I’ve always said the blogosphere is filled with the most amazing people, and I was 100% correct! Thank you all so, so much!!

Well, I have emailed the Humane Society and the Logan County Humane Society, along with the Journal Advocate concerning this. I cannot believe the Humane Society has the right and the power to enter our private homes and forcibly remove an animal based on a mere report. Certain situations, of course, might be obvious, but not this one. It is very frightening to learn of this. I will certainly not be renewing my membership with the HS and will actively encourage everyone I know to either not join or drop. There are other groups out there that actually work to help animals.

Okay, so this woman has her cat declawed and then allows it to go outside? She’s nuts! She should be placed in a cell at the HS for cruelty to animals. She obviously doesn’t care. Why do I have this feeling that no dog ever attacked her cat and now she’s afraid she’s been caught in a lie?

lynne, your vet did you no favors on this one. considering his position and knowledge of your dog, can be a serious issue. get you local news involved. if they are interested they will do necessary research to determine what HS can/cannot do. Is there a court date set? If you mentioned it, sorry.

Doctor Fredregill is a good vet. get over it and keep a better hand on your animal. So what are you going to do now? Take your pup to Doctor Cochran or are you going to travel over thirty+ miles to go to a vet you are not familiar with. Just because once incident, you are leaving the vet who has helped you for over 20 years.
get a grip girl.

First of all, Cure, let’s get one thing straight — IT WAS NOT MY ANIMAL WHO DID IT! Or didn’t you get that from my post? Not hard to figure out! If my dog had done this, I’d be the first one to say she did and take responsibility for it. But she was ASLEEP IN MY ROOM WITH ME at 5:00AM, along with my other dogs!! They are ALWAYS inside at night!
Secondly, a good Vet? Maybe, but he’s a HORRIBLE director of the Humane Society! I challenge you to find another Humane Society who takes an animal accused of being vicious and killing another animal, and then does nothing to gather evidence for their case. I practically BEGGED him to go examine her! He wouldn’t do it. He made it perfectly clear that he is only willing to help when he’s getting paid for it.
Thirdly, where I am planning on taking my animal now is no business of yours. What does it matter to you, anyway? Do you work for him or something?
And finally, you say “just because of one incident” — are you kidding me right now? ONE INCIDENT?! I think if your animal was falsely accused of being vicious, killing a cat, biting a woman on the hand and hauled off with no proof, you’d look at it as a little more than just “one incident”. Frankly, it’s bullshit! So get a grip on that!

Oh wow, look at that. You didn’t even have the balls to use a real email address. Frankly, that doesn’t surprise me at all.
