Senator McCain boggles the mind, doesn’t he? I mean, after slamming Obama for months for being, in his estimation, inexperienced, he goes and chooses Sarah Palin as his running mate! Wow. If this is an example of his judgment in running the country, then God help us if he wins the election!

I saw the following over at Rants from the Fringe and wanted to share it. It’s just too important not to. This is true information, folks. I don’t know about you, but it scares the hell out of me!

This is who John McCain has chosen to be one heartbeat away from the presidency: a right-wing religious conservative with no foreign policy experience, who until recently was mayor of a town of 9,000 people.

So, who is Sarah Palin? Here’s some basic background:

She was elected Alaska’s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience. Furthermore:

1. Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.
2. She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000.
3. Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.
4. She doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change.
5. She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s “Big Oil first” energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.
6. How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.

Alaska MoveOn members were asked what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here’s a sample:

“She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today.”
—Rose M., Fairbanks, AK

“She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She’s a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska.”
—Christine B., Denali Park, AK

“As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be.”
—Karen L., Anchorage, AK

“Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.”
—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK

“She’s vehemently anti-choice and doesn’t care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary”
—Marina L., Juneau, AK

“I think she’s far too inexperienced to be in this position. I’m all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn’t done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain’s part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he’ll get our vote by putting “A Woman” in that position.”
—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AK

Sarah Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She’s a global warming denier who shares John McCain’s commitment to Big Oil. And she’s dramatically inexperienced. In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he’s made a very dangerous decision for our country.

The only word I can use to describe her AND McCain is scary!!

Another catastrophic hurricane hitting New Orleans again is simply unthinkable, isn’t it? It’s only been three years since Katrina, and now Gustav is coming. I can’t even imagine what everyone down there must be thinking and feeling. The levee system hasn’t even been fully repaired yet since Katrina! If Gustav hits N.O. full-force …. well, I hate to think about it. You just wonder how much people are supposed to endure, you know? It all seems so surreal. Hearing news reports of Mayor Ray Nagin once again calling for a mandatory evacuation of the entire city of New Orleans brings back so many emotions and memories. Such an incredible sense of déjà vu.

My sister lived in N.O. for ten years. She moved home about 20 years ago. She went through two or three hurricanes while living there, but of course they were nothing like Katrina or Gustav — thankfully! I’d be a complete basket case if she still lived there!

I find myself wondering about strange things, like if CBS will inform Renny from Big Brother 10 about what’s happening. She lives in New Orleans. I say they should tell her immediately; Hubs says no, they should wait until it’s over. I think that sounds asinine. As if! Yeah right, they’re going to wait until her entire family has been evacuated to who knows where, and the entire city is flooded once again before telling her? Riiiight. Anyway, that’s the kind of thing I think about. Yeah I know, it’s a TV show, but it’s a reality TV show and Renny is a real person with a real family in N.O. If I were she, I would want to leave immediately and rejoin my family!

The whole thing is so unbelievable and scary. And just think, if it’s scary for us, imagine how scary it must be right now for everyone who actually lives there! Oh man. I’ll be keeping everyone along the entire Gulf Coast in my prayers, that’s for sure.

Hi everyone. Sorry it’s been a whole week since I last posted, but I’ve been pretty busy the last few days. Let’s see, where shall I begin …..?

I’ll start with last Sunday, when I got to babysit my perfectly perfect grandson for about six hours! Callie went with me and we had a great, albeit exhausting, time. LOL He wore us out, and we wore him out! See?

I was dozing on the floor beside him and decided to snap that pic with my phone while he was actually being still.

The next day, Monday, was his 4th birthday! We all met at Pizza Hut here in town and had a birthday lunch, followed by a wonderful birthday cake which he loved — especially the green frosting! Just look at it all over his mouth! LOL

The quality isn’t that great, as I took it with my phone and I wasn’t exactly standing still. Sorry!

Tuesday I stayed home and tried to recuperate. LOL Then Wednesday I appeared in court on that bogus vicious dog charge against my dogs Cheyenne and Lily. I was called toward the end of the list of people, and while I watched everyone else going before me I realized that we sure do have a lot of vicious dogs here! NOT! Seems like the INhumane Society here really likes to write tickets for dog-at-large and always seems to throw in a vicious dog charge along with it. SO not cool! One poor woman was in a wheelchair and could barely speak as she was on oxygen, too, but was able to say “My dog is NOT vicious!” and pleaded not guilty. I felt so bad for her. When it was my turn, I said in a loud, clear voice, “ABSOLUTELY NOT GUILTY!”. The judge asked “On all charges?”. I said “ON ALL CHARGES!”. They then proceeded to set my TRIAL date for October 29th. I will call and make an appointment to see the City Attorney next week and hopefully will be able to talk some sense into the man!

I also watched the Democratic National Convention as much as I could this week. It was SO exciting! I was very proud that it was being held in Colorado. Did you watch Barack’s acceptance speech last night? OMG, I just don’t see how anyone can NOT want to vote for him, but there are some who don’t. Those Republicans, I tell ya’ what, they’re a weird bunch (I can say that because my husband is a die-hard Republican and he’s very weird! lol), and very stubborn! You won’t catch a one of ‘em admitting that George Dubya and the Republican party have totally screwed up this country! Then today McCain announces he’s chosen Sarah Palin as his running mate! Go figure. All the man’s been talking about is how much he thinks Obama isn’t ready to lead because of his inexperience, and then he goes and picks a 44 year old serving her FIRST term as governor of Alaska??? That’s it — she’s held no other government office. Oh wait, she was on the Wasilla, Alaska, City Council for four years and served two terms as their mayor. And she won a beauty contest once. Yep, she’s sure qualified to be Vice President, huh! And get this, McCain only met her ONE time six months ago, and only had ONE conversation with her during said meeting. That’s it, just ONE time! Then six months later he suddenly chooses her to be his running mate??? Dude, he is SO stupid! Just like his buddy George. And what a HUGE insult to the women of America! He thinks that just because she’s a woman, all women will flock to the polls to vote for him! Um, NO! Idiot. Oh, and did I mention she and her staff are currently under investigation for possible abuse of power? Yeah, she’s a real good choice, isn’t she. I’ll tell you what, people, if you truly want this country to get better and BE better, Obama is the only way!!

*jumping off my soapbox*

I guess that’s about it. Oh yeah, I did vacuum and wash my car yesterday. LOL And I’ve played with my puppies every day. They always make me laugh!

What have you been up to?

OK, first and foremost, today is my beautiful angel’s 16th BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MY SWEET GIRL!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!

Oh man, where did those 16 years go???? Wow. Simply unbelievable!

Now for something that’s been stuck in my craw since last night. Let me preface it first by saying that when I was a kid, neighbors were neighborly, ya’ know? We didn’t just know our next-door neighbors, we knew everyone on the block — on both sides of the street! We knew everyone on the streets behind us and in front of us, too! We helped each other, the kids all played together, and we smiled and visited when we were outside and saw each other. Boy have things changed! At least where I live they have. Neighbors just aren’t neighborly anymore at all!

Last evening I was walking my two little dogs, Pippin and Riley, when the latter decided he needed to poop. He scrunched up — all 6 1/2 pounds of him — and pooped out a tiny little turd as per usual. Then I heard someone sneeze behind me. I looked over my shoulder and saw a woman, younger than I, standing on her porch, staring at me. I smiled at her. She stared at me. I stooped down and picked up Riley’s little deposit, and looked back again. She stared at me. I turned and kept on walking, wondering what in the hell happened to being neighborly! She lives just around the corner from us for pete’s sake! I swear, it just pisses me off no end how UN-neighborly and rude people are these days!!

OK, enough about me. Let’s talk about John McCain some more. LOL! Did you know that he actually believes if you make, say, 4.5 million bucks a year you’re middle class? Did you know that when a reporter asked him the other day how many houses he owns, he couldn’t remember and told him he’d have his staff get back to him on that? Yeah, no kidding. Here, take 30 minutes and listen to this –

Kinda’ staggering, eh? Can you say, OUT OF TOUCH MUCH?! Gag.

I found the following video at Ibrahimo’s Blog today, and I’m very glad I did. Keith Olbermann manages to say everything (well, not everything, because there’s just SO MUCH to say!) I think about John McCain and his campaign. It’s almost twelve minutes long, but is very much worth the time. Take a litsten — you might learn something you didn’t know before — and it’s always good to make informed decisions, especially about something as important as president of the United States!
