I have a real problem with the way things are handled out here in the Wild, Wild West with regard to wildlife that wander into populated areas. Let’s not forget that WE are the ones who intruded on THEIR environment because it’s so beautiful and wonderful and we just had to be/live/visit there. If the animals — and I’m speaking specifically about mountain lions and bears — wander into your yard and kill your cat, well then, I guess your cat shouldn’t have been left outside. If you live in bear country and are stupid enough to leave your doors and windows wide open, then you’re just asking for company.

What set me off, you ask? Well, over the last week I’ve read two different articles on 9News.com that have really angered me. The first was about three bears who wandered through open doors and windows and had themselves a little look-see inside a couple of houses. The Division of Wildlife sedated the bears and took them about 20 miles away and let them go. That’s all good and well, but then they said if the bears come back they will be killed as per Colorado law for being “nuisance” animals. I ask you, who’s being the nuisance, the bears or the humans!

I saw the second article today wherein it was reported that Division of Wildlife officials have killed two mountain lions this week that strayed into Durango city limits in southwestern Colorado. Yeah, they were two young female lions. One of them was found eating a cat behind a shed and the other one was killed because some guy happened to see it behind his house. Oh no! You live in the mountains of Colorado and you call the damn Division of Wildlife because there’s a mountain lion behind your house?! What the hell did you expect when you moved there??? Asshats!

It’s just not right. No animal should be killed unless it attacks someone when it’s living in its own natural habitat which PEOPLE have invaded! If idiots don’t want mountain lions and bears around, then they should move down here to the plains! All we’ve got are snakes, and raccoons, and deer, and antelope, and bunnies, and foxes, and coyotes — oh wait, they would probably want to kill all of them, too.

  3. I live in Colorado. There are a ton of yuppies that live in many of the cities here that will freak out when an animal shows up. Usually those cities aren’t “in the mountains of colorado” and the animals must be removed or killed for the safety of the people. You would rather a person be killed than a mountain lion killed?

I live in the actual mountains of colorado (like, I live up in the mountains) and I would not hesitate to shoot any animal that I thought was a threat to me. Most of the time they cause no problem, they show up everywhere, but I would not hesitate a second to kill them.

You may insult the yuppies of Colorado, but a lot of us actually know what’s up. We’re the ones that don’t live in Boulder or Denver.

  4. Ah I see you live in colorado as well. And you have an obama button. You are the kind of people that I don’t appreciate living in Colorado. It all makes sense now, sorry.

  5. Yeah, Dew, born and raised in Colorado, as in a Colorado native. How ’bout you? Don’t even try schooling me in Colorado and where the yuppies live and how “mountain people” are. My whole life has been spent on the great plains and in the majestic mountains of Colorado. And if you had actually read my post you would have seen that I said any animal who attacks a person, which of course includes posing a real threat of bodily injury (well, I guess any thinking person would actually have understood that inference) should be put down.

As far as your politics go, I say each to their own. That’s what makes America great. I would never dream of stooping to your level and insulting you for what you think. Until you learn that lesson yourself, don’t bother coming back here. I may not be able to stop you from living in Colorado, but I sure can stop you from spewing insults here!

    Have a nice weekend.

  8. Leigh-
I couldn’t have said it better myself! I grew up in Northern MN where people respect bears, moose, and even wolves! We realize we live on their land. Rather than shoot a bear eating somebody’s garbage, we tell the idiots to remove their garbage!
I just returned from Colorado. You live in another part of God’s country, but why is it people in the west do seem to resort to shooting the innocent rather than educating the idiots?
As far as Dew’s comments–What do you expect from …well, never mind. Excellent response to his insulting remarks!
