Just Another Tuesday Morning
Apparently in DeKalb County, Georgia, there isn’t any real crime. There mustn’t be, cuz … well, if there was, then Denise Grier wouldn’t have been ticketed for “having an obscene anti-Bush bumper sticker”.
Denise Grier, 47, of Athens, Georgia, got a $100 ticket in March after a DeKalb County police officer spotted the bumper sticker, which read “I’m Tired Of All The BUSHIT.”
A DeKalb judge threw out the ticket in April because the state’s lewd decal law that formed the basis for the ticket was ruled unconstitutional in 1990.
Either that cop had waaay too much time on his hands, or he really needs to bone up on his state law. It’s been 16 years since the law was ruled unconstitutional for pete’s sake! Or … maybe he’s just a Bush fanatic. I hope he’s the former. ;)
Speaking of having too much time on ones hands, do you know what one of the newest trends is? Decorating your cell phone! Wow, decorating your cell phone? ![]()
Cell phone accessories — from decorations, to holsters to handsfree devices — bring in $1 billion a year at the retail level in the U.S. and the market is growing 10 percent to 15 percent annually, said Roger Entner, a Boston-based analyst with the market research firm Ovum.
“These things have a 70- to 80-percent profit margin. They’re a real moneymaker,” he said. “And it’s growing rapidly because Americans see cell phones more and more as items for self expression.”
Sprint has teamed up with Dooney & Burke to offer purses that take the place of cell phone cases — an Italian crocodile leather wristlet was listed at $124.99 on the Sprint Web site.
A few bucks can buy a charm featuring Hello Kitty, Sponge Bob, the SuperGirl logo or other designs at a Claire’s accessory shop or one of many Internet sites.
“We see girls decorating their phones and, a week later, they take everything off and decorate it differently,” said Chuck Strottman, director of marketing for Tween Brands Inc., based in the Columbus suburb of New Albany.
I’m sorry, but that’s just …. stupid. ![]()
OK, people, if you haven’t watched Friday Night Lights yet, then do so ASAP! It’s one of the very best new shows on the Fall lineup this year, in my opinion (and a lot of others’, too!).
“Friday Night Lights” isn’t really about football. It’s about the town, and the people for whom high-school football is a treasured obsession.
This makes Coach Eric Taylor someone everybody knows. Impeccably portrayed by series star Kyle Chandler, he has an earnest, man-of-few-words manner that serves him well. He has a way of declaring “I expect you boys to execute, I expect you boys to play football” that can even make the viewer want to do Coach Taylor proud.
Yeah, it’s really that good. ![]()
Well, I haven’t slept yet (it’s now 7:26 a.m.), so I think I’ll go give it another shot. Wish me luck! ![]()

I would have loved to see the look on his face when the Judge threw the ticket out. That would have been priceless.
Love the new look…very nice…
