Don’t Buy Dell Products!

I think I am personally going to begin my own boycott of all Dell products! (notice I didn’t link to their site!) I purchased a Dell Dimension 4600 last October 10th, and with it I opted for the 3 Year Limited Warranty, as well as the Third Party At Home Service with Nights and Weekends, 24×7 Technical Support, with 2 Year Extended Service. Well, the other night it began acting very strange, then froze. When I attempted to reboot, it completely shut down and will no longer power on at all. I have gone round and round with their different array of support “technicians” (using the word lightly), but to no avail. I have been on the phone with them for a solid hour; I have exchanged many emails; I even chatted with a “support agent” (what a laugh!) using their online chat help, and constantly had to keep reminding ALL of them that I couldn’t do what they were telling me to do because my computer wouldn’t TURN ON!! It’s like, what part of “it won’t turn on” don’t you understand??? Not to mention that they quite obviously out-source all the technical help to a country where the accent is so heavy that one can barely understand what they are saying 99% of the time!

I am extremely close to reporting Dell to the Better Business Bureau for the rip-off of their so-called warranties, and I urge NO ONE to purchase their products (unless, of course, you plan on fixing it yourself at your own expense when it breaks!). Their customer care and support is a JOKE, and no one will ever convince me differently!

  1. Hiya Leigh-Angel. I have eventually managed to sign in using TypeKey - I have been having plenty of blonde moments. I share your frustration regarding service. I have been dealing with a supplier in Connecticut and the service I have been receive is short of absolute shocking. I would take it further if I were you.

Have a fabulous weekend Hon. ((( hugs )))

  2. Hey Leigh:

You forget, they ASS-U-ME that since you’re talking with via them via their website that YOUR COMPUTER IS STILL WORKING!!! So it comes as no surprise to me (and it shouldn’t to you for that matter!) that they would ask you to do things with your Dell PC even though you can’t even turn the damn thing on because (again!) they ASS-U-ME that YOU ARE ON IT & IT IS AT LEAST HALFWAY FUNCTIONAL!!

All tech support people have you do or try things even though you’ve already done or tried them while on hold. This is because they have to record a record of you actually doing what is asked of you once they DO decide to get off their FAT ASS to help you! Had this happen just the other day with Comcast (you know, our “beloved” local Cable company?). I lost connection to the Internet, yet they have me power cycle the modem IN THE HOPES that will correct the problem (which 99.9% of the time usually doesn’t).

In short Leigh…I feel for you. Best of luck

  3. I have an Inspiron 1200 that is ten months old. I too could not boot up. After calling the support desk and waiting on hold for 45 minutes, I spent another 25 minutes with the technician who finally had me take the battery out and plug the adapter in. The ‘puter booted up just fine. So the battery is shot. Since there is a huge recall on Dell batteries, he had me call the recall line. Of course, my model isn’t covered. And even though my invoice says that I have a one year “limited” warranty, it does not cover the battery! What good is a laptop that you can only plug in? Price of a new battery? $156.95. BOO HISS to Dell.

  4. RE: Dell “Support”. I see that I am not the only one who had a bad experience with Dell Support. I have been trying to order a part for our printer/scanner since February, it is now the middle of April. My order has once again been cancelled. My list of complaints is too long to include in this message. But basically, we have decided to not purchase another Dell product.

  6. I am currently going through a nightmare called “DELL”. My laptop is only one year old and already have replaced the Screen once, the motherboard twice and about to replace the cd/dvd burner for the second time. If anyone is shopping around for laptops, stay very far away from Dell. Head to Future shop or better yet, buy a mac.

  8. i’ve had a similar issue with dell delivery. website said my desktop would be delivered in 7 days. 10 days later and it still hasn’t been built. the new estimated delivery date is one month after i ordered. i only bought because of the 7 day delivery. so far i have attempted to contact them three times and i have still to receive a single reply. AVOID DELL LIKE THE PLAGUE. THEIR WEBSITE IS DELIBERATELY MISLEADING IN ORDER TO SECURE A SALE. IN MY OPINION THAT’S NOT JUST CRAP SERVICE, IT’S IGNORANT, TREATS CUSTOMERS WITH CONTEMPT. I AM IN FACT WONDERING IF IT IS AN ILLEGAL SELLING TECHNIQUE?
