Passing the Baton

I officially passed the baton today. How did I do that, you ask? Well, I’ll tell you. ;)

David’s girlfriend called me yesterday and wanted to know what I thought he would like to have to eat for his birthday. I told her he would want the same thing all of my kids want on their birthdays — tuna casserole. Now don’t laugh! It’s really good casserole! I took the old hum-drum way of making tuna casserole and dressed it up with gobs of cheese and mushrooms and yummy things. My kids totally love it! So, I gave her my recipe. She is the first person I have shared my recipe with. She was very brave and invited us to come join them for a late lunch today for his birthday. She said that later when she thought about it, she figured she had really screwed herself: inviting me to eat her first attempt at MY tuna casserole, and serving it to David for his birthday! LOL! She told me she isn’t very handy in the kitchen, but you sure couldn’t tell by what she fed us today! It turned out perfectly!! It was sooo good! Tasted just like mine which, in a way, made me feel happy and, in a way, made me feel sad. I mean …. I’M BEING REPLACED!! LOL!

After we ate, we sang Happy Birthday to Dave and had some of the birthday cake I had baked for him, then sat and watched a videotape of his 4th birthday party. Oh my gosh, I haven’t laughed that hard in ages!! He was so doggone CUTE!!! But it sure made me long for those days when my kids were small and needed me to kiss away their boo-boos, and say nite-nite time prayers with them, and bring them drinks of water. *big sigh* Those were the days.

But I know there are many more wonderful memories waiting to be made, and that is what I look forward to.

sounds like you all had a lovely time together for Dave’s b’day. ))
Hey…I put mushrooms in MY tuna casserole as well. ;) Wouldn’t be the same without ‘em, eh?

To some, it may just seem like passing on a recipe, but I think I know what the gesture really meant to you. The fact that she made it and you all enjoyed it at their place is wonderful.

She must’ve been so nervous (I know I would’ve been). It’s nice that your family has grown and hopefully will continue to.

I love reading what you have to say about your family, Leigh.

I LOVE tuna casserole! Mom used to make it when Dad had the duty and would not be home that night. He hated it. It was a rare treat for us. Back then there were no box mixes so she had to make everything from scratch. (Nope not the noodles) and it was sooooo good. Now that it is not a secret anymore, maybe you’d like to SHARE IT?

Thought I’d stop by and say “HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAVE” Hope he had a good one.

If you ever decide to share the tuna casserole recipe, I’d love to try it. Don (hubby) just told me he likes tuna casseroles - after being married for 7 years!! Oh well, better late than never.

I almost forgot what I was about to comment with. My husband had suddenly giggled. I asked him what was so funny. He said, “I like the word bioetch”. I asked why, and he said, “Because every time I look at it, I think of ‘biotch!’ It just has an ‘e’ in there.”

    Where was I?

Oh, yes: I would never laugh at somebody that likes tuna casserole. My happy childhood memories include gratuitous moments of inhaling both Kraft Dinner and tuna casserole. In fact, I’d plead for your recipe right now, save for the fact that I no longer eat meat!

That is sad, and would indeed make someone a little nostalgic…

I loooove this skin. Do you have your page set up where you can change the skin yourself? I can’t find a link…

Wouldn’t that be…. PASSING THE NOODLE instead of the baton? Bahahahaha!

Hope you are having an awesome Monday. Love this “blue” look. ((hugs))
