Well, the picnic was great. SO many family members came this year! It was … huge! We stayed for about 5 hours, returning home this evening sufficiently worn out and sunburned. Riley had too much fun and was so exhausted when we got home! He zonked out and slept for hours!

I was deeply saddened, though, at hearing the news of Katharine Hepburn’s death. She is without question my most favorite actress of all time. She was also an amazing role model. Her mother and aunt were two women who helped spearhead the women’s movement way back when. They fought for birth control and a woman’s right to vote. Katharine Hepburn was raised to be proud of who she was, who she could become, and was fiercely independent. I’m just really, really sad she is gone, but will continue to look at her for inspiration. In a lot of ways she reminds me of my own Grandmother. She, too, was extremely self-confident and very independent, and a woman way ahead of her time. But Katharine wasn’t, as strange as that may sound. In fact, she once said of herself, “I was born at exactly the right time. And I will die at exactly the right time. That’s what I’m all about. Perfect timing”. She was one who definitely knew who she was!

So now she’s gone, and I’m sad ….. but I am also very grateful she lived. What a woman!
