Mummy Matters

I watched a documentary last night on television about the Chachapoya Mummies, and it was incredibly interesting! I’ve always been fascinated with the customs, knowledge and techniques used by ancient peoples, especially in the region of Northern Peru, the Incas being one of them. This show had me completely captivated! The Chachapoyans, otherwise known as “Warriors of the Clouds”, were eventually attacked and overthrown by the Incas after peaceful means of merging had failed. It was in 1996 that just over 200 mummies were discovered, but were not accessed by scientists until 1997. Unfortunately, in the interim the graves had been looted in an attempt to find and steal jewelry and other valuables. But still, it seems there was enough left to eventually learn a great deal about the Chachapoya people, as well as the Incas. The mummies, themselves, are absolutely incredible!! The lost civilizations — fascinating!! (another interesting site can be found here)

Now, on a completely unrelated subject, did any of you follow this case on CourtTV last week? Taken at face value, you’d assume you could form an opinion rather easily; but in reality, there are many things which must be taken into consideration. If any of you watched it, I would be really interested in hearing what you think! I know how I feel about it, but don’t want to say just yet until I hear from you. I wouldn’t want to sway anyone. ;)

Hope you’re all having a super Saturday!

aww I love to read about ancient civilizations and it always intrigued me how they all were so alike even though some of them were so far away from each other. Thanks for the links….
