How Do You Turn It Off?
29th January, 2003
Does anyone out there have the secret to turning one’s mind off in order to sleep????? If so, could you please tell me how?
Maybe if I scream really loud it will scare all the thoughts into hiding. No, that won’t work …. that would only succeed in waking everyone else up! Foiled again.
Ok … I’ll just surf some more. *groan*

I think you have to have a super-secret sleep enhancing ring, and I was absent the day those got handed out… ha ha.
Seriously, I understand this. it’s hard to shut off your head. I hope you got some sleep!!! ((((Leigh)))))

I used to have that problem a lot before I went on my Happy Pills. It’s so very tiring. Your brain just goes and goes and goes. I hope you can work your way through it girlie.

I have enjoyed surprising success over the years (surprising, considering the simplicity of the technique) by silently repeating to myself something along the lines of, “There’s no need to think about that right now; everything is okay; everything will be just fine; everything will be alright; everything will be alright, everything will be alright…”
Of course, it would usually seem that I’m too rebellious to even apply myself to this, so more often I remain awake when I should be trying (harder) to sleep. Anyway, when I can force myself to try this, it would usually seem I can’t really recall (the next morning) at what specific point I stopped repeating it to myself - nor do I have a very clear idea of long I kept it up.
Please note that if one’s religion prescribes something to recite before sleeping, that would obviously be a better alternative to the preceeding example of phrases. May you enjoy regular success with the help comes your way!
