I don't know if you've noticed, but you've been unable to comment on the last few blog entries, thanks to my web host migrating their accounts to a new platform, which totally screwed up my blog. When I called tech support -- and I must admit here they actually did try to help -- they ended the conversation with the never-before-uttered phrase "We don't support Movable Type, only Wordpress". Ugh! Oh well, I've been wanting to change this blog over to Wordpress for a while now, anyway, so I guess the time really has come. I will be attempting that monumental task this week sometime. Keep your fingers crossed for me!
Meanwhile, back to my life in the real world, my family and I have been traveling, taking a couple of trips over the last two weeks. It's been so much fun! Our first trip was to Estes Park here in Colorado, which is one of our most favorite places to go. This time, however, I would have to say it was the best one ever -- except for the fact that our daughter came down with the flu the first night we were there. The next day she was feeling better, so we managed to still salvage a good time! I took a bunch of pictures and have posted them to my flickr, so please go and enjoy! I've added a little of the history of Estes in there for you, too. ;) Oh, and just wait until you see the pictures of those beautiful Elk that walked through our "back yard"!
Our other trip was to Lake McConaughy in Nebraska (in my opinion, the only thing that redeems Nebraska -- sorry Nebraskans. GO BUFFS!). We LOVE this lake! To begin with, it's huge and has a sand bottom so there's no muddy mess like a lot of lakes/reservoirs, and the beaches are beautiful white sand! The closest thing to the ocean near us, that's for sure. LOL I don't have the pictures downloaded from my camera yet, but when I do I'll post the link. We took our daughter's best friend with us, who had never been there, along with two of our dogs -- the tiniest, Riley, and the biggest, Cheyenne. Now, Cheyenne is a Lab through-and-through and adores the water, so she had a FABULOUS time. Riley, on the other hand, is terrified of water, so I thought bringing him was a mistake, but Hubs insisted. Well, much to my surprise, he really enjoyed the beach and playing ball with us. What he didn't like, of course, was ALL THAT WATER! He got on Callie's back while she was on the tube and she took him for a little ride, but he hated it. LOL Later I got in the water which, by the way, is still very cold, and started making those kind of noises you make when you dip yourself into cold water, you know? lol Anyway, Riley heard me and thought I was in trouble, so he mustered up all his courage and jumped down the little "cliff" alongside the water and was all set to come rescue me. He jumped onto Callie's back once again and she began paddling toward me. The whole time he was staring at me with this "I'm coming! I'm coming!" look in his little eyes. It was SO CUTE! I couldn't believe he would face his worst fear to save little old me. He is absolutely my hero! All seven pounds of him! :)
I best get a move on and see about all this changing over to Wordpress thing. It makes me shudder to think of importing all of what's here, but a gal has to do what a gal has to do for the love of her blog. ;) Oh, and by the way --
HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all of you fathers out there! :)
Speaking of Reality Shows (see previous post), I just found a very cool site where you can get all kinds of Reality TV Updates. I admit it, I'm a reality TV junkie. Shows like Deadliest Catch, Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Paranormal State, Hell's Kitchen ..... yes, I watch them all. There are more, but I won't bore you. LOL Anyway, if you're a reality junkie, too, and need to get caught up on some of them, be sure to check out RealityBug.com!
I don't know how many of you watch Survivor, but I almost fell out of my chair tonight when Erik actually believed what the evil women told him and was STUPID enough to hand over his immunity necklace to Natalie! Didn't he learn anything from watching the last three or four voted off the island be completely blindsided by those same women? What a friggin' idiot! He's sweet, though. ;)
OK, I feel better now that I got that off my chest. lol
Do you have kids who take karate? Or perhaps you, yourself, are taking karate classes. Whatever the case, I have just the place for you for all of your Martial Arts Gear needs. AWMA is the leading distributor of martial arts supplies, boxing gear and exercise equipment.
Need some heavy bags? They have them! Lightweight uniforms? Chest guards? Yep, they have those, too. How about some sparring equipment (even though I'm not in Karate, I would still love some of this! *wink*)? That's right, you can get that, too. In fact, they quite simply have everything you may need. And guess what? It's all at some pretty great prices, too! If I were you, I wouldn't trust anyone but the major online retailer of quality karate gear and equipment!
Guess what's coming out on the 21st that I'm very excited about?! The Mist by Stephen King, that's what! I am a total nut for scary/freaky/thriller type movies, and we all know that Stephen King's picture is next to all those words in the dictionary!
You know The Mist, right? The eerie, terrifying, deadly mist which hides the "things" lurking there? SO totally scary! But then of course there are the people trapped inside the grocery store who begin getting as weird as the mist -- maybe even more so. They actually think they can appease the mist by sacrificing the little boy! And there's the earthquake, and the guy catching on fire, and the -- oh geez, just go watch the trailer yourself. LOL It's creepy AND good!
Have you ever been in a group of people and become scared of something like that? I remember once when a good friend and I went to a party we were absolutely not supposed to go to -- in the snow. Yeah I know, stupid teenagers! We left when it was barely snowing; I don't remember how we got ourselves out of our respective homes without our parents knowing the truth, but being devious 17 year olds, we managed quite well, thank you very much. ;) Well anyway, as the night wore on, the snow got MUCH worse. We started getting worried and more than a little scared. We finally wised-up and left, but we had to drive about 30 or 40 miles to get home. Oh, did I forget to tell you that the party was in a different town? Yeah, it was. Hey, when we made the decision to disobey, we did it in a big way! *hehe* We began to INCH our way home, and the only way we could stay on the road was for me to open my door and try to see the white line, which of course is next to impossible in a blinding snowstorm. Thankfully we arrived back home safe and physically sound, but emotionally we were wrecks! LOL To this day I hate driving in the snow!
I think it's quite possible that after seeing The Mist, I won't be driving in the fog, either. ;)
I had such a great day yesterday. :) Callie and I went shopping and bought ourselves some fun stuff like shoes, jeans, jewelry, makeup, perfume and a bunch of other things. It was SO much fun! When we were finished shopping, we went home and cooked dinner together and watched a thriller of a movie (Vacancy) while eating, then went to the park and walked 2 miles. When we got back home we watched the TV shows TiVo had recorded while we were gone. Like I said, a great day! Daughters are so much fun. :)
We're just about to leave to go walking again. Hope you all have had a great start to your weekend, too! :)
As many of you know, I'm a huge Big Brother fan. I've watched the show each and every summer since it first began 8 years ago. This year, by far, has been the most UNREALISTIC reality show on television. It has become increasingly obvious -- glaringly so -- that CBS has orchestrated and manipulated many, many things within the house this year. Rules have consistently been broken by house guests, but only certain house guests are reprimanded for them.
Dick has been horribly mean, cruel, vile, crude and rude, bordering on humiliating verbal abuse, and BB has never stepped in ONCE. I can't believe they have let him spout the things he has! Oh sure, they don't show the television viewing audience even a fraction of it, but the live feed viewers, such as myself, have seen every awful minute of it. In fact, CBS only shows you what they WANT you to see in a very strategic manner, thereby skewing your ideas and opinions about the house guests. Those of you who only watch the televised episodes probably don't know that Daniele is a spoiled rotten brat, who treats her father like crap when she doesn't need him for anything, then uses her love as a bargaining chip when she wants something. He does ALL her dirty work for her. She makes the most horrible suggestions of what they should do to people, then he goes and does it. She's as foul-mouthed as he is, and EXTREMELY spiteful. SHE'S the one who has orchestrated the latest attack on Zach, telling her father that they should (paraphrasing)"make America and Jameka think he's racist, and ruin his job, his life and his reputation". Yeah, how's that for a nice young lady? NOT! (You'll probably see some of it on tomorrow night's show, but I promise it won't show the very mean, nasty things Dick said to Zach)
The lastest HUGE thing to come out from the viewers of the live feeds is the following video, in which Dick is heard telling his daughter, Daniele, how he cheated in the game by getting secret messages in a letter from his son when he was Head of Household -- STRICTLY against the rules! But has CBS done anything about it? Of course not!! They want the finale this week to include a Donato (Dick or Daniele) as winner, no one else, and are positioning it to happen. I guarantee if anyone else had done that, they would have probably been kicked out of the house! Can't say they didn't hear it, because they hear and record EVERYTHING. They are, after all, Big Brother. Here, listen for yourself:
Doesn't it make you sick how they're laughing about it? What's way worse, though, is the fact that CBS did nothing about it. How could they? It would ruin their plan for a Donato to win this thing. As my favorite web site for everything Big Brother said,
Big Brother no longer has any resemblance to reality and it is no longer a fair game. It's simply manipulated and scripted for ratings. Even blatant cheating is allowable so long as it does not change the direction Big Brother wants the show to go. It's been obvious for weeks that Big Brother is engineering a Donato win. This is just more evidence. It is very sad that that the people who produce this show have traded the integrity for a ratings point.
Very sad, indeed. What a ripoff!

Hubs and I were talking the other night about vacations we'd like to take, eventually coming 'round to talking about vacations our oldest son has taken (yes, he's been on way more vacations than we have! how sad is that? lol). A few years ago, he and his then-girlfriend took a trip to Jamaica and had a fabulous time. I can still remember the pictures they took, especially one of them sitting at a gorgeous table in one of the beautiful restaurants they visited. Ryan had a huge smile on his very well-tanned face. He looked like he was having the time of his life!
He also went scuba diving while there, which I knew he would do, being the water baby that he is. ;) He absolutely loved it! I so wish he had had an underwater camera with him when he did it! I would have loved to have seen what he saw. Hubs and I decided that when we go there, we will go snorkeling instead. Neither one of us are much for deep diving, but we still want to see what those beautiful waters have to offer! We'd really like to go there before our daughter is all grown-up and can still take her with us. She'd be in heaven! :)
Oh yes, one of these days!
Do you remember the other day when I was talking about skating and the skaters who walk past my son's new house? Well, it really got me to thinking. I need to get more exercise in a big way, but I completely hate jogging, running, gyms and all that stuff. I get bored. It's not fun. I started thinking that skating sounded like a totally fun way to get the exercise I need! So I went "all things skate" hunting.
At Modern Skate and Surf, an action sports retailer in business since 1979, I found an enormous selection of everything skate-related. They have inline skates, element skateboards, roller skates, protective gear, zero skateboards, accessories and much more! Their skate deck alone is hugely impressive.
I think it would be a real hoot to revisit some of the best times from my childhood and once again GO SKATING!
Skating, Modern Skate and Surf, Skateboards, Element Skateboards, Zero Skateboards
By now you all know my son just recently bought his first house. He is settling in and absolutely loves it there. It's fun to sit on his great big front porch, especially at night, because you can watch as all the skaters slowly make their way home. You see, he lives just one block from a skate park. As I watch them walk and skate past the house, I am simply amazed at what these kids use today! When I was a kid - and I know I'm really dating myself here - the skates I wore went over my shoes and came with a key. Seriously! Granted we were a little behind the times, as they actually did have skates which went on your feet at the skating rink, but I never owned my own pair.
Today, though? Wow, today they have Heelys, which are shoes with a wheel under the heel, and of course, Rollerblades. I cannot believe how far the skate has come! Personally, I would totally love to have a pair of Heelys. They look awesome and completely fun! Just think how much easier things like shopping would be with wheels on your feet! ;)

I just got finished watching a movie called The Last Kiss, and while I found it rather depressing and unsettling, I did come away with a quote which I absolutely loved. It is (paraphrasing):
"Don't say you love her. Any asshole can say how they feel. How you feel is for you. How you treat the ones you say you love is what really counts."
Now ... is that something we should all think about or what?
It comes as no surprise to me that Denver, the Mile High City, in my gorgeous state of Colorado, is one of America's favorite cities. Some of the reasons why are:
The sun typically shines on the Mile High City more than 300 days a year
Denver is home to the largest urban bike trail system in the U.S.
Skaters can check out the largest free public skate park in the nation
Do you know why it's called the Mile High City? Because it sits at the foot of the Rocky Mountains at precisely 5,280 feet. Click that link up there and go look at some pictures. They're cool. I just wish there were more of them!
We all like to save money, right? I have several online sites I buy things from, but I purposely wait until they run good sales to buy anything. No, not cheap, just prudent. ;)
Well guess what? Now you can Save 10-50% on your favorite Gift Cards! I've discovered a web site where you can buy gift cards to all your favorite national brands, as well as local favorites, for up to a 50% discount! You get extra value -- or a discount -- on everything you buy! Restaurants, entertainment, spas, hotels, clothing, movie tickets, and more, shop online for the actual gift card or gift certificate that you would buy in the store, and they will send it directly to your door at a savings of up to 50%! What's not to love about that! I love giving gift cards as gifts for birthdays and Christmas. That way, people get what they truly want and then love you forever as their favorite relative or best friend! :) Seriously, they make great gifts! And no, this is definitely NOT a scam. They offer a 100% 30-day money back guarantee and their site is completely secure so you can shop with confidence. There are no fees or membership required; you can simply shop and save. Now I ask you, how can you go wrong?
Are any of you watching Big Brother 8? I didn't think I was really gonna get into this year, but I've been sucked in, all thanks to Evil Dick. Aside from the fact that he really reminds me of someone I used to know, he's also in-your-face honest about what he thinks about everything and everyone. He's not afraid to speak his mind, even when it's not in his best interest to do so. He can be kind of mean, and he's definitely rude and crude, but that's what makes him so damn interesting! He's fun to watch, period.
The dynamic at play between he and Daniele is tenuous at best, and personally I thought the producers went a little too far in bringing them secretly together for the show, seeing as they hadn't talked to each other in YEARS. They're lucky they both reacted fairly well to seeing one another again. Being the sap I am, I'm hoping this time together will allow them to mend their relationship. Being a daughter who never had a happy ending with her own father, I always long to see it happen for other fathers and daughters. Plus I think it's totally cool that he raised Daniele and her brother all by himself.
But right now, with him as Head of Household, I have a feeling all hell is gonna break loose in that house this week! Woo hoo! LOL Yes, yes, yes, I'm easily entertained. ;)
My daughter has a friend who carries her iPod with her everywhere she goes. One night when I was sitting here at the computer, she asked me to listen to a song and tell her if I liked it, so I did. I didn't even realize until it was almost over that it was Christian music! It sounded just like all the other Rock they listen to. I really liked it!
Now I've discovered that a Christian music site called c28 will be offering lyrics for all their New Christian music CDs, scheduled to begin in early August. Although other music sites offer clips of the music they sell, c28 will be the first of its kind to offer lyrics, as well, thanks to a partnership between c28 and Christian-lyrics.net. I think that's really cool. I know that when my daughter listens to and downloads music, she always has to do a search for the lyrics, apart from the site where she's getting/listening to the music. Having the lyrics available right there on their site will be a huge advantage for the c28 users!
