A Bit of a Ramble

| | Comments (5)

We've been test driving vehicles the past couple of days. A new car is way overdue. Well, a new used car, that is. ;) This is different than any other time we've gone car shopping, though. This time we have to remain very cognizant of gas prices while looking. I noticed the price of gas shot up here again the other day. If I remember correctly, it's $3.45 a gallon now. What is it where you live? Have gas prices infringed on the way you live your life at all? I read somewhere once that we should all count our lucky stars, because in the UK gas is like $11.00 a gallon! (is that true, John?) Wow. Kind of amazing they drive as much as they do. But then again, they don't pay for health care. That's where their gas money goes. So which is better? Paying an outrageous price for gas and having free health care, or low gas prices and paying for your own health care? Of course, here in the U.S. we're doing both -- high gas prices AND health care. It sucks.

ANYway ... I don't know how I got off on that tangent. LOL If you were to get the new used car you want, what would it be?

my ideal new used car would either be a 2004 Holden Astra or a 2005 Holden Vectra. And it would have to be blue! ;) lol

I think they are the nicest and coolest looking small cars. :)

Gas price is around 8.11 dollars per gallon here in Finland. We have a fairly small diesel car with low fuel consumption, so we're okay.

I'm hoping to make it at least two more years before buying a new vehicle and I hope that will be a mid-size SUV hybrid. I hope there are more to choose from by then.

Debbie -- That Astra is really cute! I had to look it up since they don't sell that make of car here. We're going to be getting a 2004 Toyota 4Runner SR5. I'm so excited! :)

Kirsi -- See, that just makes me feel stupid for complaining about the price of gas here. lol Why so high there? Do the proceeds from fuel go toward health care like in the UK?

Lynne -- I think a hybrid would be way cool! I bet in a couple of years they'll be even MORE amazing! Some of the stuff in the new hybrids and crossovers is really incredible!

Leigh,
Don't feel stupid! Large part of the price is taxes here, and they go toward health care, free education (schools, universities) and so on.
