Verdict Watch

Do any of you watch CourtTV? I've decided to take the first step in recovery and admit my addiction:

I am addicted to CourtTV and anything having to do with crime/law/trials.

I absolutely love watching anything to do with that stuff! Currently we (meaning me and all of CourtTVdom, of course *lol*) are in two verdict watches - the first being the Melanie McGuire case, in which a New Jersey fertility nurse is accused of killing and dismembering her husband, William, then throwing his body parts into Chesapeake Bay in three separate suitcases; the second being the Mary Winkler case, in which she is accused of killing her Pastor husband, whom she asserts had physically, emotionally and sexually abused her for years.

So, here's how I'd vote if I were on those juries:

NOT GUILTY

In Melanie McGuire's case, I would vote that way because there is just too much reasonable doubt and not nearly enough direct evidence. In Mary Winkler's case, I would vote that way because I believe her when she says she was abused and simply "snapped". She's just SO not the type who would kill in cold blood for no reason.

Anyway, if any of you are law/crime fans, let me know. I just may start profiling other court cases here at Thoughtprints!

Thoughts from others

The last two court cases I watched were the OJ Simpson case and the Bobbitt case. I watched them OBSESSIVELY. Then I quit cold turkey. One I was happy with, the other I was not.

i would have voted not guilty for melanie because i would have had too much reasonable doubt due to the lack of hard evidence. Winkler, however i would have voted guily. There is no doubt to me Winkler knew what she was about to do.

Adam, I was sorry to hear the guilty verdict for her today. While I agree with those who think she's guilty in that there was evidence one could not overlook, I also think there was waaaay too much reasonable doubt to convict. Now I guess we'll have to see how her appeals go.
