Grandpa's Truck
My grandpa was a landscaper. Mind you, that was back in the day before many people did that for a living, and he was very good at it. In the summertime, all the kids in the neighborhood in which he happened to be working would gather 'round to watch him trim high limbs in trees, or plant new bushes and flowers. When he came home for lunch he would honk his horn on his old pickup and I'd run out and climb on the running boards and ride the rest of the way home with him (they lived just catty-corner from us). He had boards which he'd fashioned himself to build-up the sides of the pickup box so it would hold all his ladders and saws and sprayers and the like. In those days he couldn't buy a fancy truck rack like you can today. But that's OK. It was perfect just the way it was. :)
