We got some news today which was very disconcerting, to say the least. Hubby went down to the Courthouse today to pick up a copy of the title to Dave's '69 Camaro so that we can turn over full ownership to him. While there, a very good friend of the family who works there gave him a copy of a handout from the Police Department. She said she was trying to inform as many people as possible of what was happening. And what's happening? I'll just re-type it in part, word-for-word:

NOTICE OF COMMUNITY MEETING REGARDING SEXUALLY VIOLENT PREDATOR

The individual subject of the notification has been convicted of a sex offense that requires law enforcement registration. Further, they have been determined to present a high potential to re-offend and are therefore subject to community notification regarding their residence in this community. (Holy Shit!!)

VIGILANTISM, OR USE OF THIS INFORMATION TO HARASS, THREATEN, OR INTIMIDATE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE IS CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED: THE OFFENDER, THE OFFENDER'S SIGNIFICANT OTHERS, AND THE COMMUNITY NOTIFICATION TEAM.

I can almost guarantee that this person, whomever he is (which I'm sure we'll find out on Monday night), WILL be harassed and/or intimidated by someone (or lots of someones!). This has me SO freaked out! A violent sexual predator? In MY town? What if he's going to be living on MY block? Or on MY street? Oh my God. I predict this town is going to be in a HUGE uproar over this, me included!!

Why don't they just keep people like that locked up for good? I mean, it's a proven fact that sexual predators can NOT be rehabilitated or "cured". They should just ship them off to an island somewhere and let 'em live out their lives there, preying on EACH OTHER!!
