Untitled Tragedy
My heart is absolutely breaking right now. I'm sure by now many of you have heard about the deadly hostage incident that took place in yet another Colorado High School today. The sick, twisted excuse for a human being shot an innocent 16 year old girl before shooting himself when the SWAT team raided the room where he was holding both she and another girl hostage. And that's after he did God knows what else to them, and after using poor Emily as a human shield all afternoon. I just don't understand these things, I really don't. I guess it's not for a "normal" mind - a rational mind - to understand such craziness, though, is it. Why, why, why would he want to take such an innocent life? I really can't even imagine what this girl's family is going through right now. My heart bleeds for them. And then there's all the kids he terrorized ... they'll never, ever be the same. I take great solace in knowing he went straight to hell as soon as he drew his final breath.
I'll tell you one thing, if it can happen in Bailey, population 5,500, it can happen anywhere - including here, a town twice that size. It's just .... I don't know how much more tragedy with our young people Colorado can take, you know? Columbine is still so fresh, so raw ... and now this. Right now all I know is that this gives me another huge reason why I should home-school my daughter!
Thoughts from others
Damn right, Leigh. Home-schooling gets ANOTHER tick of approval! :)

It's so sad that the life of a young girl was taken and for what reason, does anyone know? I did hear today that the shooter had sent a letter to his brother/family telling them he was sorry, blah, blah, blah. I guess I just don't understand what makes these guys to go into a school of all places and cut loose. This happening is becoming another Columbine and somewhere out there is some twisted person who will walk into a school somewhere and start shooting, just for the thrill of it.
I heard on the news this morning that a 9th grade student shot the principal/superintendent at some school (can't remember where), because the kid had (I think) threw something and chipped/broke some concrete and was expelled.
I'm beginning to wonder if home schooling isn't going to rise.

I think homeschooling kids is a good idea, but not because of things like this. We're all in danger no matter where we are...look at what happened to that poor Aurora detective last week. Randomly shot while driving his car.
