The Honeymoon, circa 1928 (Part 1)

Jim     2-6-28     Jennie

"Rain all day - desert travel - now in a beautiful spot - "Newberry Springs" - Desert Oasis - spring water in cabin - gas stove - kitchenette & wood & wood-burner. As soon as we get a million dollars are going to buy this lovely spot. Left Long Beach today at 11:30 a.m.

Wonderful - Beautiful - Inexpressible. Such a hotalue time couldn't even write a little diary. Love the ocean & everything that goes with it, especially boat rocks. Wanted to take another look at the Saratoga but couldn't make it.

3-6-28 Needles, Calif.
1. Mirage
2. Lava Beds - Barren Desert. Jim lost his watch chain and knife while getting out to fix carburetor. Had to go back 80 miles to find it, and found it beside or at side of road. Are stopping at "Drop Inn". Nice but not nearly so as at Newberry Springs. People there wonderful. Dandy big fireplace - real oasis in Desert. Plunge bathhouses 'n everything. Lovely.

"My Song of Love"

Back to Catalina - Had wonderful music & dancing. Stringed instruments on deck & a passenger that yodelled very keenly & another that tried but how! Tomorrow Nite Grand Canyon - Anticipation!!

A Yellow Bus from Chicago. Battle Ax - chatter box - pinhead - lame brain. Met Mr. Luken from Utah - a dandy old Sauerkraut & not old at that - might see him again sometime.

Burbank - Hollywood -
Next through United Artists Studio. Heard Aimee McPherson in evening & went all through Temple. Wonderful Temple. Aimee baptized 76 - don't just know."

Thoughts from others

Who's Diary is this?
Interesting.

Phyllis, it's the journal my Grandmother wrote during her and Grandpa's honeymoon. :)

How VERY cool!!

Doesn't it make you wonder what our kids or our grandkids will think when they read our written words years after we are gone?

I often think about that.

Cool!! thanks for sharing some of your grandparents' most precious times. :))) ((((Huggles))))
