Teething Baby

Riley gave us a scare today. Actually, it began last night. He didn't eat all of his dinner, which he never does. He always eats whatever he's given! Then this morning he wouldn't eat his breakfast at all, plus we noticed he was shaking. Kind of like shivering, but it wasn't cold in here. Well, as the day progressed, he was acting very lethargic, and wasn't even interested in going outside, which is totally unlike him. So we called the Vet. He said he'd meet us at his office in 10 minutes.

Know what he diagnosed? Teething. Teething! Riley's temp was normal, and the doc didn't feel anything weird in his belly. Now, I've had dogs all my life, and I've never had one who acted like this when they were teething, but I've never had a toy breed before, either. Are smaller dogs more prone to acting like this while they're teething?? And does their breath smell really bad when they're teething? Cuz Riley's breath would gag a maggot! lol Seriously! Pooey breath! Anyway, he has to get his shots tomorrow morning, anyway, so the doc is going to check him over again just to be sure. We'll ask him about the breath thing then. I was sure scared, though. Poor little guy ... he's just so tiny and helpless ... I felt so sorry for him!

He's acting better tonight. Hopefully it was just some quick-passing thing!

Thoughts from others

Riley looks so much like the dogs my XMIL (ex-mother-in-law) breeds, I can recall her complaining about how bad their breath smelled, I might be wrong in saying that might be a common thing. (?)
Hope Riley is feeling better soon.

Riley is just the cutest darn thing!! I hope the vet is right and he is only teething.

Well, in my limited experience, all dogs have bad breath, but toy breeds, especially seem to be plagued by it. Permanently. Dunno why. Maybe it's the kibble? Maybe you could ask the vet for breath tabs, or puppy toothpaste?

Oh my goodness, I am glad it wasn't more serious. Our cats are weaning themselves off the wet and eating almost total dry. Bad thing is it's the most expensive dry food... LOL IAMS. *shesh*

Glad to hear it was nothing serious! I hope he is feeling better soon!

At least you can pick him up and cuddle him to help with the shivers, eh? Poor little guy. It's so worrisome when you can't figure out what the problem is.
