Thoughtprints

I don't know that anything "got me started" writing poetry. It just happened. I found that when I wanted to articulate the thoughts and feelings going on inside of me, I "thought" in poetry. It just came out that way. I truly do believe that it is my soul whispering, which is why I call my poetry "Whispers". Oh sure, there are pieces I've written which were "forced", so to speak, and those are generally not the best I've written. The poems I feel are the best are the ones which just "gush" forth. They are sometimes so spontaneous that I can barely get them written down fast enough. Those are the pieces in which my soul is truly bared. Those are the pieces that release me.

What does it do for me? It saves me. It is the one powerful tool I have that keeps me "sane". When I can't talk to anyone else, I can write. When I can't verbally articulate what I'm feeling, I can write. It has saved me countless times from ... well, I hate to think of what it's saved me from. All I know for sure is that it is a very big, and very real, part of who I am. Without my writing, I would not be me. I would not exist.
