Question #3
Okay, here is John's question: When you're working on a drawing or painting, do you go into a particular state of mind... and can seeing the picture rekindle it?

Yes, John, absolutely. When I start on a picture, it is very, very difficult for me to stop before it is finished. It's almost as if I become the picture. I definitely travel below the surface of what is merely seen, and feel the underlying emotion. I become obsessed, you might say. Everything else around me ceases to exist. Someone could be sitting right next to me talking, and I wouldn't hear them. It is a very rare thing for me to start a picture and put it down before it is finished. I become so focused on what I am drawing, that I can see the smallest detail that probably no one else would see, and am not satisfied until I make it "perfect". So as I said, yes, I do go into a particular state of mind. What that state of mind is, exactly, is anyone's guess. *wink*
The answer to the second part of your question is also yes. To this day, I can look back at work I did 27 years ago and STILL feel the emotion I felt while drawing it. Oh yes, very, very much so! In fact, I don't even have to see it -- I can just think about a particular drawing and feel the emotion behind it. I believe it's because I pour so much of myself into everything I draw. Every single picture has my emotion living within each and every stroke of the pencil or brush.
That was a good question, John. Thanks! :)
