Flying Popcorn

The wind is blowing really hard right now, and it's blowing all the popcorn out of my tree. "Popcorn in your tree?", you ask? Why yes, I have a popcorn tree. Didn't you know that popcorn grows on trees??? Well, at least it does on MY tree.

I have a big ol' tree out in front of my house that I love. I think it's beautiful. I used to think it was a eucalyptus tree, but was told a while back (by someone I can't remember) that it's not. So I don't really know what kind it is, but this time of year it is especially beautiful. White blossoms erupt all over it and they look just like popcorn, so I call it my popcorn tree. :)   Wanna see?

Thoughts from others

I LOVE those big white trees. I always imagined them as giant snowballs, but popcorn is so much more descriptive! Specially when the flowers start to blow off and float around!

lovely tree! I'll ask Kevin if he can ID it for you... he's had botony in College... but it was a while ago, so I can't promise an answer soon. ^_^ Love uoi, Leigh!

I love it! I have one big pop-corn tree in the woods behind myself and about 4 sprouts growing in my yard. They have very pretty leaves...I was wondering what kind of trees these were! I have heard that they are considered "pests" in some areas because of their rapid reproduction. I'm keeping mine...they are beautiful!

Everthing I have looked up shows Yellow Catkins for flowers on the Popcorn or Chinese Tallow Tree, so I am confused about the cuttings I have gotten from a friend
